Do Nasal Polyps Cause Mucus?

Polyps appear to form when inflammation causes fluid to build up. Because they can obstruct the nasal passage, they prevent mucus from draining properly and make you feel congested.

Symptoms of polyps are similar to that of the common cold including:

  • Mucus and post-nasal drip
  • Difficulty smelling or tasting
  • Headaches and facial pain
  • Snoring
  • Bleeding

Nasal obstructions like polyps should be evaluated for treatment because they can cause chronic infections. More serious symptoms such as a change in vision or difficulty breathing should be seen right away.
